It's an old racing trick to put a speaker magnet on the oil filter. Pop it  
off and reuse it on the next. Cutting open an oil filter is an aviation  
mechanics staple. They sell expensive filter cutters, but a "bicycle chain  
looking" tubing cutter works fine.
