Allan,

You could lean the edelbrock up with smaller metering rods and see
what jets you are running. When you dyno'ed it what were your AFR's?

As for the 5 speed, depends which kit you are talking. The tom Hall
kit has a stock looking shifter that comes out of the stock hole (it
does require some tunnel bashing i am told and also is not an easy oil
change) it would drop fuel consumption and make it a relaxing time for
driver and car at lower RPM.

As for MPG.. on highways at 60mph i can get my 340bhp FMS 302 with
edelbrock 4BBl, 3.07 rear and 195/60/14's to do between 24-26mpg if i
am gentle with the right foot so what MPG are you getting.. and how
heavy has your right foot been?

As for the hardtop up, at highway speeds it will make a difference,
but by the same token so will the soft top. However if you wind down
your windows you will basically loose most of the low drag advantage,
but as you have a 1A you can pop the fresh air vents and run the
blower.

Anyway just some thoughts.. fitting a suplemental tank for a single
journey does seem a lot of effort.. but i agree with everyone on the
saftey issues of a loose tank and the issue near the battery. Perhaps
a system to get a tank secured with extinguisher style clamps so stop
it from moving around in a worst case scenario?
