I love the diesel sound...wonder if I could pipe that into my Volvo? Think
the sound goes away if the radio is turned off?

alternator noise to figure out the engine speed, and then modulated the
stereo output accordingly. BMW will probably charge $1000 for that "feature".
All you really need is a megaphone piped from the intake manifold ;)
