Carl,

First...YES, you do seem to be suffering from LBCS! It does appear to be
getting worse as well. This talk about engine swaps is indicative of serious
problems on the horizon. 

SEEK PROFESSIONAL HELP NOW!!!

Second...An engine that always seemed like a good candidate to update a
TR-3/4 type device is a Pinto 2000/2300. I would expect it to be very close
dimentionally and it is one bullet proof little puppy. The xflow OHC design
breathes very well and the bottom end is bomb proof. They can be turbocharged
to very high levels and live long and produce lots of HP. There are lots of
manifolds available as they were raced a great deal. Webers!! Lookit all dem
Webers! Also there are lots of performance parts, and well documented 
performance
mods.
