I can see that this one is probably not going to go away, and I just
don't have the time at the moment to answer each individually. I have
been finding enough evidence in GM technical papers to support what I'm
saying, for a couple of reasons. 

But, instead, for those who are sure that the thermostat is a
winter-only device, I'll suggest the following empirical test:  for
those of you who are dissing, and plan to go to the upcoming VTR (a
decently long test for most folks), I would think it would be good
protection for your engines to remove the thermostat before embarking
upon a long trip to a very hot place, if it's good for cooling because
of the increased flow rate. _If_ you get here, and get through all the
Ft. Worth traffic for four or five days, I'll buy you a beer. If I see
the faintest traces of steam from either you or your cars, you buy
yourself a new thermostat and you buy me a beer. <g>
