I just reinstalled the dashboard in my 72 TR6. It had been damaged by water
and the veneer had peeled off on one end. I bought a lenght of mahogany
veneer at a local wood specialist (30$ CDN for 12'' X 96''), filled the
cracks with plastic wood, glued the new veneer with contact cement and
opened up the holes thru the back, taking care not to chip the mahogany. A
little bit of sanding with a dremel, 3 coats of semi-gloss transparent
urethane and Voila! the results are just fantastic! After looking at the
many possible veneer choices, I chose mahogany for its sober patern
although birch, knotted maple and teak would have been interesting.

there you have it!
