Gregory,

I looking over the wiring diagrams for early car and can see the ballast
resistor wire listed.  It appears in 77 Triumph went to 12 fuses with
some air-conditioned cars in some markets.  Can't see a resistor wire
in any circuit.  However, it does show a 6 volt coil which means voltage
has to be reduced somewhere.  There is an item listed as a Drive
Resistor
coming off one side of the distributor, maybe this is it?  

Hope this helps more that it confuses.
