Hello Everyone,
My name is Nick Tamborra and I have recently returned to the Triumph
arena. I found this mailing list on the VTR webpage. My father and I restored
a 1978 Spitfire 1500 about 5 yrs ago. It was our first and only project, but
we enjoyed the work. I learned a great deal about the British automobile
industry in the process. Unfortunately I went away to college and the car sat
idle for several years.
I am living now in Northern Virginia and will most likely bring the car
down here from CT. There are some improvements that I have in mind, but I am
lacking in know-how to go about.
The first thing to do is replace the transmission. It is not the
correct model for the car, I believe its from a 71', and its running on
borrowed time. I would like to replace it with a correct year model, non-OD.
I would like to use this chance to get performance upgrades, mainly better
highway cruising at top gear. Has anyone altered gearing ratios? Are there
suppliers who make different gear ratios? I have also noticed some writers
mention 5spd tranys, what is the story with those? I am not worried about
keeping the car stock, so has anyone replaced the transmission with another
makes?
Rear differential rebuild or replacement. Any suggestions on limited
slip settups or altered gear ratios here....
I would appreciate anyones suggestions, especially on the 5spd
transmission.

Built to Race,
Bred to Win,
Born to Triumph!

Thanks all,
Nick
