For what it is worth, most of the TR locks I have taken apart exhibited
the same failure, grooves worn in the cylinder the barrel rides in. The
grooves line up with tumblers, so in this condition one only needs
reasonable facsimile of the proper key. Using the jiggle method with
just about any key that goes into the lock usually worked on these worn
cylinders.
Also, one must keep in mind the technology that went into these locks is
pretty primitive. In the '70's car locks actually became sort of secure.
