Hi,

Had the same problem on a 1973 Honda Civic. Turned out it was a bad ballast
resistor. Turned out that it was letting a full 12V to the points and would
melt them or burn them in a few days. I replaced it with a ballast resistor
from a Chevy since the Honda version cost $20 and the Chevy version was $5.
This only counts if you have a ballast resistor. Some cars have a resistor
wire instead. If you have a resistor wire it would burn out before it would
let the full 12V to the points. So, if that is the case look elsewhere!
