When magnesium wheels are worn out they crack. Mag wheels are not ideal for
highway use unless all your highways are like billiard tables. When new
they are very light and very strong but often they only have a lifespan of
three years. Good for racing though and they look trick

I recently found a set of American Racing "Silverstones." I believe these
were
dealer-installed options on Mark I GT6s. My question is, are they really
magnesium wheels or are they just aluminum. I've read that they were,
but they don't feel any lighter than some aluminum American Racing slotted
wheels that I traded for them. In pictures showing '60s SCCA racing, I
see that many TR4s used these wheels. Has anyone used them on their
race car? I paid $250 for them; is that how much they usually go for?
