If you go with the plastic, let it sit in the sun for a week or two.  It tends
to shrink.  Put it in as long as possible.  If you pay attention, you'll see
lots of Triumphs driving around with a gap where the trim clip used to be.  When
I replace mine, I'll probably leave it long and overlapping until I head for a
show.  Then I'll trim it and put on the clip.

The DPO replaced the trim just before I bought the car.  The gap is now over two
inches.
