Some metal preps are like that. As long as you follow through with the
priming and painting it should be OK.  What the washing does is clean off
the residue so the primer can work. I used a metal prep from Eastwood tha t
required washing after, What I was going to try once was a 2 part self
etching primer, said on bottle was "could cause cancer" so I didn't use it.
