Is everything new on the car, in terms of plugs, points, etc.? Once past (&
passed) the test, older parts will of course produce worse results. Also,
the carbs could be leaned out more than recommended. I recall an article on
how to best get around the test, but can't remember its source nor any more
specific ideas. Anyone else pitch in? JD

        Hi all,
I have a 77 Spit in IL; I just failed emissions today. The readings
were:
        HC 312ppm passed limit: 700ppm
        CO 7.5% FAILED limit: 7.0%

Anyone have any ideas? I have been told it might be running rich.
The car was also very hot and the tester flooded it trying to start it!
        PS:
There is No emissions equipment on the car. DPO! But it did pass
this way 2 years ago.

        Thanks,

        BS
