I have 165-13's on my GT6+ now and at FULL jounce I get a very slight rub
at the rear end fender lip.  I should think that If you want to go bigger
165/65-13's would be just about right.  When it comes time to replace my
tires (probably pretty soon), I'll be using that size.  The later MK3 GT6's
share the wider rear fender (wing) arraignment with the MK4/1500
Spitfire's, and can get away with using a wider tire back there.

You don't need tubeless tires, but you WILL need tubes with any tire you
choose.  The wire wheels, at least the after market Dunlop brand for the
small chassis Triumphs, are not sealed and are not designed to take a tire
of any type without a tube in it.  If you use a modern tubeless radial,
then use a radial tube designed for them-
