I'm inclined to agree with you, but it seems many people aren't comfortable 
with modifying mounts, redoing wires, etc.

The 15ACR is rated 28 amps, which is marginal but adequate.  The 17ACR is 
rated 36 amps, which should be enough even with some electrical additions 
(fog lights, stereo, etc.), and should drop right in.  I don't have specs 
handy for the 21ACR, but the 20ACR is rated 66 amps, so the reasonable 
assumption is that the 21 is even higher.

Of course, it depends a lot on what is available.  Here in the US, there 
aren't a great many Lucas alternators "just lying around" <g>

BTW, the wiper motor is only supposed to draw 4 amps, ISTR that the fuel 
pump is similar.
