Kathleen:

I've heard conflicting reactions to the single DGV for a Spit; some love it,
others
can't see that it makes much difference. If you can find them (in the UK, for
instance), you might consider going to twin SU HS2 carbs, or maybe HS4's, if
you can
get by emissions where you are. IMHO, HS2s are a good option for Spitfire.
I've
seen race cars that use them quite effectively.

As per your exhaust, there are lots of options. I do not, however, recommend
the
Monza header for Spitfire. For one, it's a very poor fit that will require
significant grinding and filing to create a flush surface to mate to your head.
Also, the metal is thin in places -- I put one on a Spitfire, and it blew a
one-inch
hole in one of the tubes where just a little corrosion had occurred. Get your
header
somewhere else ... perhaps from Triumphtune (in the UK).

And like their header, the Monza exhaust system will also require some fitting.
Alternatively, it's quite easy (and cheap) to assemble your own exhaust train
-- for
example, you could go to the JC Whitney catalog, and for all of about $40, get
a slim
silencer to mount in the slot under the center of the car, and a Monza chrome
dual
exhaust tip for the tailpipe. (This is a system I have on my GT6 that sounds
great,
provides a free flow, but doesn't wake the neighbors. Write me offline if you
want
details.) Then have your local Midas shop install it, routing the pipe so the
exhaust makes a turn at the back to hang from the stock mount on the right side.
That's a total cost under $200; more if they install the header, too.
