The consensus seems to be gear oil. See

buy the gun needed to apply the stuff. Just bought one for $15 from my local
Mercury marine dealer. Haven't used it yet, but it looks like it'll do the
trick. This would explain the Guinness look.  :^)

OK. Where did they hide it? I've been all through the shop manual, and can't
find it. The Haynes manual drew a blank too. What lube is supposed to go in
the trunnions? When I pulled my TR's front suspension apart a thick dark
brown ooze came out of the trunnions. Looks like they used leftover Guinness
in there! What is that stuff?
