that would allow pressure to be released from the transmission and
therefore
the pressure caused the fluid to push out. They want to put a pressure
release hole in. Long story, but can anyone shed any light as to whether
this is a good idea and why if one is required, isnt there one there to
begin
with? Any comments/ideas would be appreciated........thanks

My transmission leaks at the front seal and I (home)made a breather for the
transmission. the leake may be due to wear on the input shaft where the
seal makes contact. Even a new seal will leak if that surface is rough.
If they haven't put it back together maybe a speedy sleeve will solve the
problem.
I doubt if you are building up pressure, there are 8 bolts that hold the
top cover on and these bolts thread into holes that go right through to the
inside of the transmission. Since there are only split lock washers to
seal off the bolts (and split lock washers don't seal) there is plenty of
breathing taking place.
