Jan, I found the cause of my turn signal problems. I pulled the Speedometer
back out of the dash, and the turn signal switch wasn't connected to all the
wires from the main wiring harness. I connected the wires, turned on the
switch and had a nice smoke column coming from the turn signal switch.
Needless to say I immediately turned off the ignition to cut power to the
switch. I ended up pulling the switch out and found it one (or more) of the
wires were shorting to ground. With the switch out and hanging from the
dash, I retried the turn signals, and they worked. I was offered a used
switch by one list member, but decided to spend the extra money and get a
new switch, which should be arriving today. Check to make sure you are
getting power through the hazard warning switch. I ended up taking my
hazard switch apart and cleaning the terminals inside to get power through
it. My hazard switch now works, but you have to fiddle with it some. I
currently have my turn signal wires disconnected from the hazard switch and
shorted. This way I know the hazard switch is not the fault. Once I get
everything working I'll reconnect the hazard switch and make sure that
works. The turn signal not being fully connected also answered some of the
hanging down wire questions.

Good Luck,

Ken

Ken - We have corresponded before. We're in similar phases of our 71 TR6
restoration. I can't help with the buzzer. The little light that connects
to the driver door mounts to the right of the steering column just under the
dash in a little hole welded to the dash.

Fellow Listers - I also have the same grouping of a purple and green wire.
When I received my car they were looped around the wires on the column light
wiring but not connected to anything. The purple is also attached to the
driver door (confirmed by voltage tester). Where do these go?

Like Ken, I am having problems with my turn signals. The fuses are fine. I
have power at the fuse box - gauges, wipers, etc. work fine. I also have
power to the newly installed direction indicator flasher unit. However, I
don't have power at the steering column switch, and therefore, at the bulbs.
Where do I go from here?
