I had a similar experience with my TR-4.  The vertical link, right at the
top thread, just as it exited the trunnion, cracked while I was navigating
a turn.  No damage to me or the vehicle, but sure scared the *%#$%^ out of
me!

I pulled both sides down, and had the links magna-fluxed to be on the safe
side!

This problem was addressed witha the TR-6's, by the use of a redesigned
vertical link/trunnion system.
