Years ago, my Dad taught college chemistry. At the time, one of the US
gasoline companies was advertising how wonderful their gas was, because
it had Boron. Just for chuckles, during a course in quantitative
analysis, Dad had the class analyze a sample of that gasoline, to see
just how much Boron there was in it. Even using tests that should have
been able to detect less than one part per million of Boron, they could
not find any.
The gas co. in question (I've honestly forgotten the name) of course
wouldn't answer any questions, so Dad called the only supplier of Boron
in the US (at the time). The answer : "Oh, we gave them a quart sample
a few years ago, but they never bought any from us."
I've noticed that, ever since then, the magic additives all have names
like Techron that no chemist knows how to test for ... <g>
