Hi Pat,
While the blocks are the same, changes in piston/liner sets determined the 
ultimate displacement. I think that 86mm was the largest offered. 
The TR-2's(?), TR-3's and 3a's were 1991CC, but most changed over to the more 
robust 2138CC engine offered with the later 3B's and TR-4's.
If you were to find that one engine's piston/liner set to be satisfactory, 
then you could  merely replace rings and seals and swap them out.
