Hi Bud, I am assuming this is pretty similar to the TR4 column
bushing... one in my car was really stuck and I found I could use a
hacksaw blade (not mounted in the saw frame) to carefully split the
bushing, after which it almost dropped right out. However, I did have
the column out, which made it easier and allowed me to thoroughly clean
out the bits inside.
I used a piece of plumbing pipe bought at the local hardware store to
push both the old bushings out and the new ones in.
I didn't grease the column when installing the new bushings, as I didn't
want them to slip around after all was back together. But ISTR I needed
to use WD40 or similar to help them slide in. That's an old motorcycle
trick, to get rubber grips onto the handle bars. The WD40 makes the
rubber slippery initially, then evaporates pretty quickly leaving the
rubber stuck pretty solidly to the metal.
