Interesting, but something of a non-sequitor to my thinking.  I don't
see how the comparison to a train axle applies, unless the knockoff is
rolling against something like the train wheel rolls on the track ...
(Although he's exactly right about how trains roll around curves)

IMO the tightening effect has a lot more to do with the rhythmic flexing
of the wheel center under load than with the curves of the mating
surfaces between the knockoff and wheel.
