Hello all!

Charlie (TR4) emerged from the mechanic's garage yesterday, one month after
purchase, and then took me on my first ever series of wild rides through
town in my own LBC. It was awesome! What a feeling! What neat handling!
Got scoped blatantly by a guy driving a 944!

But, on a midnight joyride (I could NOT stop driving), Charlie shredded his
fan belt. He limped to a parking garage, where he is sitting waiting for a
new belt.

Questions-
-What size/model #/brand of fan belts do TR4's take? Is it a specialist
item (ie buy from Moss only) or can I buy one at the local parts store?

-Does anyone do that "thread a 2nd belt and store it ready for use behind
the cross member" trick that the Haynes manual suggests?

-Is there any trick to replacing hte belt beyond what teh Haynes manual
states?

-Did he shred his belt for a reason, or just because it was that time?
(Symptoms- belt came off in the afternoon, i noticed that it had pulled one
of the fibers out of the belt, and had wrapped it around the fan hub. I
cleaned it up, cut off damaged bits on edges, and reseated belt. I couldnt
replace it at that time (though it was clearly damaged), and desperately
wanted to go driving. After a bunch of fiddling (threw belt a few more
times as I experimented with tensioning) I got the belt to stay, but under
hard driving the belt inverted (with the narrow part of the v pointing OUT
not in...weird, eh?) I couldnt get it back around, but since it was doing
what it was supposed to (turning hte water pump and generator) I decided to
go driving anyway. After an hour of driving, the belt shredded. Question-
is there something wrong that I need to fix that caused this, or was this
just a lousy belt and the next one will stay?

Thanks all!

Noah
