I'm having a real hard time with this line of thought ... at least GL-4 has
the advantage of having been recommended by one of the manufacturers
involved (even though the other one specifically forbid it). Why in the
world would you want to use something that neither one recommended ?

BTW, MTL is a GL-4 (_not_ GL-5) rated oil, and according to it's
manufacturer (Redline) has none of the sulfur based additives that are a
concern with GL-5 oils. Sounds good, except I've heard reports from the
racetrack that it is _too_ slick, and can lead to synchro problems and
popping out of gear.

I'm no lubrication engineer, but it's clear to me that it's a deep and
complex subject, with many compromises.
