Hi Ashford
All the Triumphs I have had (late 60's onwards) have specified drain and
refill use hypoid 70, top up use hypoid 90. The O/D will work on a variety
of oils, I think the specification of the oil by Triumph was that needed to
offer the correct protection to the gear train in the gear box.
I would therefore stick to what was recommended for peace of mind.

Subject: A-type O/D Oil?

| Much confusion in my head about this.  Apparently the original A-type
manual
| recommends using 30wt engine oil whereas most people these days seem to
use
| the more typical 80-90 wt gear oil.  This seems like a large difference in
| viscosity so I was hoping that some of you can add your opinion to further
| confuse me.
