Thanks all for the replies. I have ascertained the alternator is an
aftermarket replacement, but I don't know what yet.  The second wire
definitely the sense wire.  I found the third wire from the original alt
clipped off.  So while the main output is 14.5 volts, the sense is way off.
Once I get back home I'll pull the alternator out and figure out what it is
and let everyone know, cause its definitely a "plug'n'play" replacement, no
brackets or adapters.

Thanks again, I am pretty sure I'll be able to make it home without
destroying anything more on the way.
