A misfire under load would be the most common result of too wide a gap plug.  
The ignition system would have enough reserve voltage to run at low load, but 
as load ( most importantly cylinder pressure ) rises, so will the voltage 
needed to jump the gap.

If your ignition system is up to the task, a wide gap will produce a better 
idle and more power since the spark isn't as shrouded.
