Should be no problem.  Good application for one of those cheap 4" angle
grinders from Harbor Freight, with an abrasive cutoff blade.  When heat
is a concern with something like this, I spritz it with a hand spray
bottle filled with water while making the cut.  But, if you cut next to
the fork, I think the distance to the housing will let enough heat
dissipate.
