Ok, it appears that my information was badly out of date.  The "shim
steel" gaskets are once again available (in 87mm) from BFE and
Racetorations (probably others as well).

Sorry 'bout that, and my thanks to TeriAnn, Irv, and Ken for setting me
straight.  I planned to use one of the thin gaskets myself soon, now I
know to go to BFE for a steel one!
