FWIW, I have a modest set of auto radio service manuals from the 60s.
By Oct 68 (latest one I have) there were no less than 11 distinct radio
models covered by the series. The earliest Triumph data sheet I have is
Nov 65, both of the models it shows have black pushbuttons, black outer
knobs and chrome rings behind them. Same as the later radios, although
the style of the knobs changes a little. There are only two earlier
models listed in the index, one of which says 1962. All of the photos
show Triumph-Triumph on the faceplate, no other indication of
manufacturer.
However, I believe Andy is right, these were made by Bendix with the
Triumph logo on them. The model numbers are very similar to the Bendix
model numbers, and many of the other Bendix radios are also labeled with
a car name (Volkswagen, American Motors, different Chevrolet models,
Mopar, etc.)
I have a later radio from a TR6 (AM-FM mono), tagged 'British Leyland'
and there is no direct indication of who made it or even where it was
made. However, all of the marked components are from US companies
(mostly Motorola), and there is a sticker of patent information which
quotes only US patent numbers.
