Well, the engine came out of my TR6 yesterday. The job went pretty smoothly.
Only problem was getting the transmission past the bulkhead. I will
definitely get ahold of one of those engine tilters for the re-install.

As I suspected, I found the two thrust washers sitting in the oil pan. One
was a bit chewed up. The rear bearing cap and the thrust bearing surface of
the crank are pretty scored. On the bearing saddle where the rear thrust
washer was supposed to be, there is a slight groove, about the width and
depth of the thickness of my fingernail.

I'm guessing the crank is beyond repair. I'm also guessing that if there is
enough of the slot which the thrust washer fits in remaining, then the block
is OK. I have read other postings and web sites which say that the bearing
cap can be welded and repaired thus saving the block. Does this sound like a
good prognosis? I know my machine shop will have an opinion too.

Thanks,
Hugh Fader
