BTDT...I worried about the same thing, finally decided to cut out the
angles and replace them with larger ones (about 8" x 11") of fairly heavy
sheet metal with a hole precut to accept 4" speakers.  Spot welded them
in (could also be bolted or riveted), then cut opening in panel for
speakers.  Recommend making a cardboard template first, for fitting.
