I cannot seen what you did wrong. I did my TR3A years ago pretty much
like you did and I survives well. Same for my Healey. I bought some
'english grain' vinyl at a local shop, glued it with regular contact
cement and did not even use clips. I normally use a heat gun
(moderate heat) to help on the corners and lately I started using the
3M weather strip glue on the edges of the pieces I do. I sticks like
crazy but is not easy to handle cleanely.
I just cannot understand how and why your vinyl split.
A new dash recovering is in order soon, since I am converting the 3B
to tan interior.
