Ross:

Here is what I did for my TR6:
1. I bought the a good oval set of speakers that comes with
tweeter, woofer and midrange all in one unit.
2. Bought (but you could build) a set of free standing speaker
boxes that the speakers I bought would fit in. The box was heavy
construction, carpeted on the outside and had the wire connections
already mounted.
3. Bought a role of velcro striping (K-Mart or any craft/
sewing shop has this).
4. Cut two lengths of the plastic hook side that were about 12"
and two of the felt side that were about 2" in length
5. I cut out a 2" by 1" piece of the box carpet cover at the top
of the back side on both speakers and pasted the felt strips to the
box.
6. At the one end of the longer strips (plastic hook piece), I
installed the female half of the snap (used to hold down the top)
7. Now, on the your back board of the interior trim that covers
the gas tank, there should be 2 snaps at either side that are
installed to hold the strap for your top cover. This is the male
side of the snaps. If these are not there, install them.
8. Snap the long strips to the back trim and then set the
speaker box on the shelf (after installing the speaker wire). Then,
pull the strap and engage it to the felt part of the velcro that is on
the back of the speaker and you're done.

What this provides is an easily removable speaker that will not come
falling forward when you come to a stop and will stay in place
on the shelf when you're going for an invigorating drive. When you
have the top down, it rests nicely on top of the boxes and almost
conceals them. I have had these for 5 years now and they work great
and I can even listen to music doing 75 MPH down the highway with
the top down.
