I wonder if the liquid vinyl sold to dip tool handles and such would work
for this ?  Probably a bit messy to apply, you'd want to remove the part
from the car and work with it suspended horizontally over some old
newspaper, but I don't see any reason the stuff couldn't be applied with a
small brush (like a flux brush).
