Yeah, it was something similar to Masonite, basically molded compressed
sawdust with a hard glue binder of some sort. I thought it was hilarious
when the new unified government declared it to be "toxic waste" !
OTOH, it actually looked like a pretty ingenious solution to the problems
facing the old East Germany. Short on steel ? No problem, build a wooden
car !
