Oh, God, yes.  Once the car's up, give each corner a good "hip check" (hockey
lingo) to make sure it'll stay there.  I also like to place the jack
appropriately as a backup to the jackstands, and then, once the wheels are off,
slide them under the car frame as well.

Don't forget that a seismic event could happen while you're under the car.  (Not
likely, but west coast people know all it takes is one.)
