Hi - I'm new to the list, and want to apologize in advance for any
mistakes/errors I may make in sending this.

I have a 54 TR2 long door (TS3388L), which I have owned since about 1984. I
drove it regularly, with very little problems, until about 1990, when the
brakes went out. I drove it into the garage, turned it off, and went about
raising kids for the next 12 years. It seems to have fared fairly well over
time. There is no rust in the gas tank (even tho it's had gas in it), and
the radiator still had coolant. I'm sending the tank, radiator, and heater
core out to be tested just in case. Besides the obvious of changing all
hoses, fluids and lubricants, I do have the following questions:

1. The engine has not been turned over in 12 years. I am going to add
"mystery oil" to each of the cylinders, and let it sit for about a week,
before I even attempt to turn it over. Any other suggestions?

2. When I took the radiator off, I noticed the crank hole did not line up
with the front pulley. The radiator sat higher. There were no packings
between the radiator and frame. I compared it with 2 other radiators I
have, and they seem to be the same size. Any suggestions/comments as to why
this does not line up? Is the packing necessary?

3. The bracket (cowling stay?), between the frame and cowling (apron)
underneath the front, on mine is bent at almost right angles. Is this
supposed to be straight?

4. When I took the cowling/apron off, there was no beading between the
cowling/apron and the wings. Is there supposed to be on my model? I
checked Piggot's book, and I couldn't tell, except that it is not chrome.
The rear wings have beading, but it does not extend beyond the junction of
the wings and the body, and is barely noticeable. I wouldn't even describe
it as beading - it looks more like a gasket.

5. Since I've got the front of the car opened up, any suggestions as to
what should be done or checked while it is accessible?

6. I've seen references to "The Big Three" when it comes to parts. I know
about about TRF and Moss. Who is the third?

7. Does anyone have a picture of the cable release bonnet locks? The one
on the right works normally, but the one on the left is operated by pulling
a length of electrical wire strung thru the firewall (jerry-rigged by the
DPO!) I can't seem to figure out the cable connection between the 2 locks,
so that they work simultaneously.

I guess that's all for now. I am not a mechanic, but just love to "dink
around" and want to get one more LBC back on the road. By the way, I intend
to drive this again; at the present, it will not be a show car, but I do
want to keep it looking as original as possible - if that makes any
difference in your advice. Thanks in advance for your help. David Gunn
