That's how you do it with boats. You pump it from the bottom until the fluid
appears at the level hole. Then you insert the plug at the top. This creates
an air lock that allows the bottom pipe to be withdrawn without the oil
flooding out. Then you insert the bottom drain plug. Very tidy if done
right.

I don't know if there is too much air in the transmission to create an air
lock, but it's worth a try.

There's a product I've wished for over the years.

Perhaps it exists .. or someone has an idea how to make one easily.

Even if you get a pump of turkey baster . . . filling diffs and trannies is
still a little less than elegant.

I've over filled them before and made a real mess.

So who has a drain plug with some sort of integral valve on it?
A ball check valve? A screw in brake bleeder type of gizmo?

I mean . . . If I've got to pump the fluid up and into the unit anyway .
.why
not pump it in from the very bottom, and use the filler hole to check the
level
as you are doing it?

I dunno . .maybe I'm crazy.
