I agree with Randall, The easiest way to identify HS6 is the black
plastic damper rod and there are always 3 screws that hold down the
float lids. There were also many variations of the HS6 that either had
float chambers in out or both in, many combos and either had or didn't
have vacuum advance connections. The pair I'm searching for were the
most common applied to TR4A late, they had float chambers on the outside
and a vac advance connection , although I'm learning that the loacation
of the chambers only affects the linkages and combinations can be used
as long as the linkages work and there are dual choke connections and a
vac connection. The sad part is I missed out on 2 different sets
because I was led to believe a gentle man in WA had the pair I wanted,
described them to me perfectly, I sent him money, he sent me a
confirming picture in email and they were the wackiest looking linkages
I'd ever seen!! So I'm still hunting. Maybe I'm doing this all for
nothing because I di have a set of HS6 carbs from a Volvo that the car
was running on but there was no vac connection. Should I just simply
rebuild these and run them???

AUC 6040 is the casting number for the body, so it will be the same for
most HS6 carbs. I'm not sure that any of my reference material lists
the casting numbers, but I'll check tonight.

However, if they match visually, then most likely they are correct (or
at least will be after replacing the needle and spring). Of course,
only the late TR4A's were fitted with HS6 carbs, the TR3 and early TR4
used H6, which are different (and in fact there were 2 or 3 different
models of H6 fitted over the years).
