Is there any chance the tranny was assembled with mis-matched gears ? There
was a subtle change in the profile of the dog teeth and shift ring during
TR6 production; and I've heard that mixing the two will lead to jumping out
of gear. There are also several spring tensions that should be adjusted
during a rebuild, but many rebuilders overlook this step.

Not sure why it was messy ... Sta-Lube sells a variety of pumps for the
purpose and they seem to work well for me. The larger one at least will
screw onto an ordinary gallon jug, so you don't have to buy oil from
Sta-Lube to use their pumps. Pumps should be available any place that
carries Sta-Lube products, like Pep Boys.

Look for the hose tip that latches into the hole.
