Nope, doesn't matter.  It's considered slightly "safer" to have the
disconnect on the negative side, since then you can't cause a short by
dropping a wrench (or whatever) between a battery post and the body.  But
it's a minor distinction, and has nothing to do with stopping your 'leak'.

Of course a better solution might be to find & fix the leak ...
