Connected with bullet connectors, it's easily removed when not wanted.
I, too, have a luggage rack. When the luggage is in place I just locate
the brake light over to the driver's side of the rear deck where it is
still visible to cars behind.

Butt-ugly I suppose, but had to do something for those tailgating SUV
drivers... on the phone... checking their look in the mirror, etc.
