Jim:
In my experience, JB Weld is the ideal candidate. I've just repaired a
regulator cover and the bond is strong and nearly invisible. To add a coat of
perfection, I scuffed the whole part with 0000 steel wool and painted it with
Rust-O-leum Satin Black. Looks better than new and the paint should also be
sunlight resistant, especially given the amount of exposure most of our cars
get
(and even for those which are daily drivers!).

After storing my control head with its stator tube for years, I managed to
drop it yesterday, whereupon a chunk of bakelite broke cleanly off. It looks
as though it won't impair the operation and so I would like to glue it back
on so that it stays put. When I place the piece in position the crack is
almost imperceptible.
I have not had great success with gluing bakelite before - not that I have
tried many times - maybe because it is so porous. I am thinking epoxy but am
not confident in its longevity, given the exposure to the sun.
Advice?
