I wen to remove the digital AM/FM/Cassette from the dash of my 1976
TR6 today to replace it with a vintage analog one (digital readout
offended me in an LBC).

When I pulled the radio, I found a largely disintegrated, folded over
MANY times, piece of paper towel SATURATED in motor oil. The only
explanation for this is that the DPO found he had a leak in the line
to the oil pressure gauge and did nothing to fix it. All wires etc.
are completely soaked.

I checked the connection to the gauge and found that I could
relatively easily twist the line even though the nut was tight. When
I pulled the connection, I found that it was a metal on metal
connection. It seems to me there should be a grommet to seal it. I
looked in the catalogs, but it did not show one.

Is the supposed to be a grommet or seal here?
Should I replace the line from the engine?
What is the best way to clean the mess?

All answers appreciated.

TIA

Alex
