Hi Jim,
   How big a concern is originality? Not totally sure where I got it, but I
replaced the piping with a single piece of stainless steel braided hose. One
of
the vendors offers it (suspect it came from Revington TR, but am not 100%
certain, please check their website if you wish).
   It's on a TR4 in my case, so I also am not sure if there are significant
differences in the attachments used on later cars. TR4 did use a solid pipe
from the gauge that went through the firewall, then a short length of
flexible
rubber hose, then another solid pipe including the banjo fitting attached at
the
filter head. It just made sense to me to both eliminate one connection
(i.e.,
potential leak) and get a more flexible line at the same time. The only
caveat is to be careful of routing, so that no wiring rubs against the s/s
braided
hose and so that it doesn't rub against any metal parts (mounting in a
souple
well-placed, rubber-lined clips solves that) because s/s braided hose is
pretty abbrasive.
   I probably could have made up a s/s line myself, with standard AN3 or AN4
hose, if proper end fittings could be found (look similar to brake hose
fittings, in this case). But, I felt better getting a piece with
professionally
crimped-on ends, since hot oil leaks spraying from up under the dash are not
something I'd like to consider!

I am trying to finish installing the instruments in my TR250 and discovered
that the nylon pipe right near the connection at the block was kinked. I
finally got the little barbed fitting off of the pipe, cut the pipe off at
the other side of the kink, but in spite of soaking the pipe in almost
boiling water, I cannot push the fitting into the tubing.
Both Moss and TRF show that they sell the pipe and the engine fitting, but
of course not the gauge fitting. I am afraid that I will have the same
problem with a new replacement tube only now at the other end!
Any advice, or information on your experiences would be appreciated!!
