The thing I didn't see anyone mention was whether they were comparing to a
properly-tightened rubber mount, or the loosey-goosey ones that seem so
popular.

In spite of the tech tip published somewhere, you cannot properly tighten
the mounts using the rack as a jack ... you really need that special tool.
Only time I had anything to do with TR6 steering, I made a "half-fast" tool
from an old carpenter's clamp.  Definitely not as good as the factory tool,
I could have done much better given more time ... but the owner commented
later about how much better the steering felt (and we put back all the same
parts we took out).

With the proper tool, you can basically load the rubber up just as tight as
you want.  Too tight may shorten it's life, of course, but you can get it
plenty tight.  And even just 'normal' tight, you shouldn't be able to notice
any movement, IMO.
